Many Michigan taxpayers wonder what the schools do with all the tax money they receive.  That will now be easier to figure out as more schools are posting their check registers online.

Unfortunately, we will probably never see the check registers that we really need to see. For example, I'd love to see exactly what failing districts like Pontiac or Detroit do with all their money.

Farmington Public Schools was the latest district to comply with the Mackinac Center for Public Policy’s “Show me the Money” transparency project. The purpose of this project was to challenge the schools to keep the public informed of how their taxes are being spent.

A listing of the districts that have agreed to provide check registers and those that have been asked is available at www.showmichiganthemoney.org.

The Waterford School District, Clawson Public Schools and Bloomfield Hills Schools are among schools that had already made it a practice to post their check registers.
