She was born on March 12, 1913 in Detroit, MI, daughter of Lida (Armand) Bowerman and Harvey Seward Bowerman. Katherine and her twin brother, Russell, and her older brother, Armand, were the fifth generation at Westview Orchards. At the age of 10 years, her twin, Russell, passed away from pneumonia. On March 8, 1952 she married Dr. David R. Roy in the Romeo United Methodist Church. Katherine graduated from Romeo High School in 1931. A few years later, she took several business courses and cooking courses. She and her brother, Armand Bowerman, owned and operated together their centennial family farm, Westview Orchards. As working business partners, Armand used his degree in chemistry working in the fields and orchards, while Katherine's business expertise managed the farm market and accounting matters. Armand died suddenly in 1981, so the farm management team became Katherine and her daughters, Abigail (Roy) Jacobson and Katrina (Roy) Schumacher for the next two decades. She and her family farm were recognized in 2005 as the "Business of the Year" by the Romeo-Washington Chamber of Commerce. Her daughters were recognized that same year as "Farmers of the Year" by the Macomb County Farm Bureau. She leaves behind daughters, Abigail (Bill) of Romeo and Katrina (Mike) of Imlay City, three grandchildren, Kathryn, Magdelyn, and Evan, and "extended" family, the Abigail and Imelda Chavez and the Pepe and Marisela Maldonado families. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 26 from 4-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 1-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday 3 p.m. at the Romeo United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Sharp officiating.
