PAPKE PAUL A PAPKE  JR PAUL PAPKE JR Age 84 of Tinley Park, formerly of Rochester, MI and the Milwaukee, WI area passed away December 20, 2008. Loving husband of the late Shirley (nee Reckard). Survived by his son Paul "P.J." (Cindy) of Tinley Park, and daughter Joan Papke of Madison, WI; his sister Helen (late Howard) Gapinski of Rhinelander, WI; and brother Bob (Carolyn) Papke of Minneapolis, MN. Grandfather of Portia, Nathan, Christopher Papke; Carly Pfister and Indigo Papke. Mr. Papke was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Pacific in the Americal (23rd) Division. He worked 30 years at Cutler Hammer and later Eton Corp. in Milwaukee where he retired in 1986. He was actively involved in planning and participating in his Bay View High School reunions over the years along with Golf and Bridge leagues. He enjoyed visits to his sister in northern Wisconsin and travels with his brother searching the family genealogy with trips out west and to Germany and Poland. He had many friends in Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois that will miss his sense of humor and spirited discussions. PARK BETTY JOAN PARK BETTY PARK of Lapeer, formerly of Hazel Park; died Thursday, December 4, 2008; age 78. Betty attended Hazel Park Schools, graduating in 1948. She married Larry C. Park, her high school sweetheart, on December 28, 1950 in Hazel Park. Larry and Betty chose to live and work in Hazel Park. Betty was a Hazel Park Schools bus driver for 10 years, retiring in 1991. Betty loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and served Him faithfully daily with Bible Study and by avoiding any limelight, her bottom line was to serve the Lord and service to others. Upon retirement, they moved to Lapeer, joining the families of their three youngest children, enjoying the Thumb Area. PATAK ELEANOR PATAK ELLIE PATAK  Age 83, of Northville, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2008. She was born August 22, 1925 in Detroit to Frank and Rose (Ryktarsyk) Narkun. She graduated from St. Hedwig High School in 1944. Eleanor was united in marriage to Frank Patak on April 19, 1947; they spent 61 loving years together. She moved to Northville in 1978; she was previously from Southfield and Detroit. Ellie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Often she would be seen at basketball games or PTA events actively supporting her family and friends. She was everybody's "Grandma". She enjoyed playing bingo and being a busy homemaker. Eleanor is survived by her beloved husband Frank Patak; her children, George Patak and Barbara Patak-Flis; her grandchildren, Sarah Patak, Megan Patak, Julie Flis, and Mary Flis; her sister Rosemary (Jerry) Komendera; her brother-in-law Ted Kaminsky; her sister-in-law Helen Woszczyna; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dolores Kaminsky and her daughter-in-law Virginia Patak. Dear grandfather of Andrew Tomlinson, Joseph and Scot Thomas. Joseph was a Bagpiper and was pipe-major for 20 years with the Birmingham Chrysler Pipe Band. His fond love of Piping lead him to teach others the art of Piping. His other joy besides his family were trips back to Scotland. PATTERSON WILLIAM JOHN PATTERSON WILLIAM PATTERSON Age 89 passed from this life on Sunday, December 14, 2008. William "Bill" was born May 26, 1919 in Detroit to the late John Patterson and Helen [Nelson] Patterson. Bill courageously volunteered and proudly served in the Navy during WW II. While enlisted, he married his loving wife of over 64 years, Margaret Ann (Mulholland) Patterson, on December 9, 1944. Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife, one son, Michigan State Senator Bruce Patterson and his wife, Phyllis, of Canton; three grandchildren; Justin Patterson his wife, Jessy (Earl) Patterson, and their daughter, Tannis Shay Patterson, of Saline; Denise (Patterson) Mettetal and her husband, Anthony "Tony" Mettetal of Portland, OR., and, Lauren Patterson and her Fiance, Mr. Jeff Winner, currently of Burlington, VT. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother John G. Patterson. Bill was a graduate of Cass Technical H. S., and of Ford Trade School, before becoming a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker. He prided himself on doing outstanding work and he played a role in early unmanned space satelite manufacture. In addition to his devotion to family and friends, Bill's passions in life were cars, American - made, particularly Ford Motor products, traveling throughout the United States on family vacations, cheering the Detroit Red Wings on to victory, and reading about the life and accomplishments of U. S. President Harry S. Truman, whom Bill credited with bringing him back Home safely from the Pacific Theater. Bill made many friends during his long, fulfilling life and he especially enjoyed those he made as a member of Beechwood Walking Club in Southfield. Bill's proudest Fraternal affiliations were as a 32nd Degree Mason and as a Shriner. The Family is planning a Memorial Service to celebrate Bill's life and details will be made known in the future. PEARL GAYLE FRANCES PEARL GAYLE PEARL Age 65, died on December 20 in San Francisco. Daughter of the late Morton and Frances Pearl of Detroit. Survived by husband Robert Slattery, brother David Pearl, and an extended family across the U.S. Gayle was a lifelong lover of live theater, opera, the symphony, and screwball-comedy films of the 1930s, as well as camping, especially in her beloved Yosemite National Park. A memorial service will be held in San Francisco on January 3.

POWELL MARY ANN FORSTER POWELL MARY FORSTER POWELL MARY ANN POWELL MARY POWELL Age 88, died at home in Clearwater, FL, November 20, 2008. She was born January 11, 1920 in Baltimore, MD to William and Mary Graham. She was the youngest of two children, her brother William Graham died at age 89 in 2007. Mary Ann graduated from Randolf-Macon Womens College, Lynchburg, Virginia - 1937 to 1941. In 1943, Mary Ann married Marine CPT Malcom Smith, a graduate of West Point, class of 1943. Mac was a Marine P-47 pilot who was later shot down and died in Normandy, France during WWII. Mary Ann's first child by Mac Smith was Susan Smith, born February 29, 1944 and died a year and a half later in 1945. Two years later, Mary Ann moved to Mackinac Island in Northern Michigan, and later married Henry Forster in Detroit in 1949. Mary Ann had two children, Henry Forster III and William Forster, and adopted Henry Forster's two children, Sally Forster and Lynn Forster. Following the death of Henry Forster in 1972, Mary Ann married a long-time family friend, Bernie Powell. They lived in Clearwater, FL for the following 34 years. Mary Ann and Bernie Powell were involved in many philanthropic activities including Morton Plant Hospital and Morton Plant Child Care Center and Learning Center, Clearwater, Florida. Mary Ann was a member of St. Cecelia's Catholic Church, Clearwater, Florida. She is survived by her sons, William Forster and Henry Forster III, daughter, Lynn Roth, daughter-in-law, Vikki Forster, grandchild, Jeremy Forster, daughter-in-law Rita Forster, grandchild, Tracy Wadas, grandchild Whitney O'Neill and great-grandchild, Zachary Wadas. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Graham, her first husband, Malcom Smith, her second husband, Henry Forster in 1972, her daughters, Susan Smith and Sally Forster O'Neill, her great-grandchild, Julie O'Neill, and her husband, Bernie Powell, August 22, 2008. Funeral service at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church, Clearwater, FL, December 6 at 12 noon. Burial Sylvan Abbey Memorial park, Clearwater, FL.
