BLITZ KRIEG PUBLISHING Disney World: The Magic is GoneBy Donna Gundle-Krieg January 29, 2009 (Note: to comment on this story and other stories about education and children, please go to Examiner.com)
Last year, my family drove 1200 miles to visit Disney
World's Magic Kingdom on New Year’s Eve.
We were very disappointed with our experience. A lot has
changed since we were last at Disney when the kids were small.
We were at the Magic Kingdom for ten hours, and managed a
total of three rides for our $300. We dropped another $100 to wait in long
lines so that we could eat their cold and overpriced food.
This is not the fault of the employees, who were
undertrained, overstressed, and unable to control the massive and unsafe
crowds.
Customer service at the Magic Kingdom consisted of the
employees everywhere screaming for people to “squeeze together closer.”
During the parade, employees ran down the parade path
yelling and physically pushing customers, including myself, out of the
way.
They were stressed about the parade route being blocked,
but the customers had nowhere to go because of the masses.
People were cutting lines on all the rides, and a fight
broke out.
I have been a Disney fan forever, and am so sad at what
this business has become.
To me, Disney has absolutely lost their magic. For those of
you who think that I am "not speaking the truth or the facts," please be
aware that this is not a news story. It is an editorial opinion story
based on my experience.
We consider all of our family outings as educational, and
my teenagers did receive a lesson on corporate greed and mismanagement. We
also learned how silly we were for going to such a place during a holiday
break, hoping to have fun.
I wrote Disney about my experience and asked for my money
back because we were not satisfied customers.
They gave me the runaround for weeks. Finally they called
and told me that I had to file a claim with the Sheriff's Department since
it was a criminal matter.
I didn't understand what they meant by criminal matter, but
realized that it would be a waste of time to fight this company in court.
Mary Poppins will never be the same for me again.

bring out the worst in both children and adults.
