ZACHOW HERBERT E ZACHOW JR HERBERT ZACHOW JR RED ZACHOW JR a long-time resident of Milford and Zephyrhills, FL; died on January 23, 2009; at the age of 87. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Zachow (Steve) Purdy of Williamston; sons, Jim (Sue) Zachow of Traverse City, Doug (Julie) Zachow of Milford and Rick (Kim) Zachow of Commerce; ten grandchildren; and four great grandchildren; also surviving are his wife, Beverly Zachow of New York; and brothers, Robert (Mary) Zachow and Donald (Laweeta) Zachow; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by wives, Dorothy Zachow and Agnes Zachow, a daughter, Sandra (Bill) Pfahlert, and grandsons, Matthew and Thomas Sharpe. Red was a U.S. Army Veteran of W.W.II, a long-time Scout Master with the Clinton Valley Council of Boy Scouts of America, and was retired from the General Motors Proving Grounds, where he worked for over 28 years. ZIEGLER HARRY GARRETT ZIEGLER JR HARRY ZIEGLER JR YATES VIRGINIA KATHERINE1925-2009. Devoted husband of Patricia. Father of John A. (Leslee), Jeffrey W. (Eileen), Julie E. Falls (Alan), and grandfather of six. He is survived by brother Hal W. Ziegler and sister Dee A. Allison. A Radioman in the United States Navy Submarine Service during WWII, he later graduated from Kenyon College where he was a member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity. Professionally, he was the owner of H.G. Ziegler and Associates and was personally involved as a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America and as a member of the Advent Episcopal Church. He was also an avid golfer and life-long stamp collector. ZIMMER DORETHA O ZIMMER DORETHA ZIMMER January 4, 2009, was born in Forest, Indiana to parents Edward and Belzora Smelser. She was preceded in death by her parents and previous husbands Emory and Hukill, and a brother Ophir Smelser of Buffalo, Indiana. She is survived by her sister Kathleen Stavropulos of Lincoln Park, MI and five nephews in Florida, Donald (Eula) Smelser, Edward (Kathy) Smelser, Dale Smelser, William (Sheila) Smelser, and James (Kathy) Smelser. Doretha was an active community person. She had five Beauty Salons in the downriver communities of River Rouge, Wyandotte, Trenton, Lincoln Park and Southwest Detroit. She also managaed Virginia Farrell Career Beauty School on Fort and Southfield in Lincoln Park. She owned and managed several apartment buildings. She had the honor of serving two terms as one of the first women to be President of a Chamber of Commerce in Lincoln Park. She retired from her last remaining Salon in Lincoln Park after 45 years in the same location at Mayflower and Fort St. In her last years she resided at her home on River Road in St. Clair, MI. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Heartland Hospice. Visitation will be at the John K. Solosy Funeral Home, 3206 Fort, Lincoln Park, Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Burial will take place in St. Paul Cemetery, Forest, Indiana.

ZIMMERMAN OTTILIE ZIMMERMAN Age 98 of Marine City, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008 in Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe. Mrs. Zimmerman was born in Iversheim, Germany, March 4, 1910. She was predeceased by her husband Herman, son Earnest and grandson Brian. She is survived by her beloved children Herman O. (Marilyn) and Larry J. (Stuart Itzkowitz); grandchildren Mark (Ranee), Dean (Eileen), Scott (Pamela), Craig (Diane), and Kevin (Stacy); 11 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and loving friend Irmgard Ulmen. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Celebration is scheduled at Holy Cross Church in Marine City for Saturday, January 3 at 10:30 a.m. Family will accept visitors one hour prior to the Service. ZUZICH ANN POLENTZ ZUZICH ANN ZUZICH age 90, of Holland, died Sunday, January 11, 2009. She lived at Oak Crest Manor in Holland, MI. Ann was an Associate Professor at Wayne State School of Nursing; served as a former President of the Michigan Nurses Association, Citizens for Better Care and ARC/Michigan. She was an active member and volunteer at the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak. She had a passion for individuals with developmental disabilities that led to advocacy at the state and national levels. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1983 and a son, Francis, in 1965. She is survived by her children; Paul and Mary Zuzich of Tempe, AZ, Marge and Carey Bakker of Holland and Michael Zuzich of Romeo, MI; grandchildren, Michael Zuzich and Maria (Zuzich) Ries; a great grandson, Chase Ries; and a sister-in-law, Vera and John Kerastas of Farmington Hills, MI. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 171 W 13th St., Holland, with Fr. Fred Hoesli officiating. Chief Radiologist at River District and Almont Community Hospitals. Emergency Physician at Cottage Hospital in Grosse Pointe. Radiologist at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Detroit. Commanding officer in the USAF Hospital in Bordeaux, France. The Medical profession, history and music were his passions. Spoke six languages. Wayne County Medical Society Award in recognition of fifty years in Medicine. A mentor to many.
