He also gigged and traveled with some of the biggest names in show business. Gordon was a 50 plus year member in the Detroit Federation of Musicians Union, Local #5. He was an avid golfer and finally made his hole-in-one in the summer of 2000. Gordon loved to be on the water as he and Marion sailed their boat, the Allegory, in Sarasota Bay and the Florida Keys. His family moved west in 1916 and lived in California and New Mexico before returning to Oxford in 1935. He, and his family, have resided in his mother s family home since returning to the community. He married Gertrude Jane Willobee in 1936, and they had remained happily married for these 72 years. Edward was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather and Dreamland Train Engineer Extraordinaire. At 98 years young Edward went home to Heaven on January 3, 2009. He was in the arms of his wife and surrounded by his five children and their families. He passed quietly as his family sang Sweet Hour of Prayer, lifting him to the arms of Jesus. He is forever loved by all who knew him; admired for his quiet strength; and cherished for his sense of humor, adventurous spirit and eternally youthful outlook on life. He had always been a shining example of a truly Christian heart; and will always be a hero to his children. He will be missed beyond measure and Heaven will be blessed by the presence of this Saint (Psalm 116:15).
