Mr. Sakowsky was a highly decorated Veteran of WWII (US Army Sergeant) and was awarded the Bronze Star in Normandy; served in nine campaigns; in exess of 108 battles; and his name is recorded by the Veterans War Project in Washington, D.C. by inscription on the WWII Memorial. Additionally, in honor of his service, his name is inscribed on a special Memorial Plaque in Normandy.

Rogers Construction, served a term as Waterford Township Clerk, worked in home remodeling and was Project Manager for Parliament Construction. He was active in the C.A.I. for over 30 years, holding many offices and receiving their One Hand One Heart Award. He was a former President of the Waterford Jaycees and a State and National Jaycee Senator. Art was also a member of the Oakland County Sportsmans Club. He participated in the the Bread Run for Christ Lutheran Church where he was a member for many years. Art enjoyed family activities, hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, golf, bowling, wood working and travel. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, his many pets, he grew orchids, raised tropical fish, and canaries. He loved his family dearly and was a friend to many. He was always ready to help others in need. Judy is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Norm/Ron and lived on Upper Bear Creek Road in Evergreen, Colorado. SHERIDAN JOYCE MARIE SHERIDAN JOYCE SHERIDAN 1943-2009, of Williamsburg, Michigan passed away on January 11, 2009 while wintering with her husband in Tucson, Arizona. Joyce had fought a difficult battle with uterine cancer for nearly one year. Joyce Marie Tifft was born in Detroit on August 23, 1943. Joyce graduated in 1964 from Providence School of Nursing in Detroit with a diploma in Nursing. She was married to Stan Sheridan in October, 1965. After raising her family, she graduated with honors from Madonna University in 1990 with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing. All who knew Joyce will always remember her enthusiasm for life, and her willingness to help family and friends at all times. Her Christian faith was very important to her, and she lived it everyday. Joyce is survived by her husband Stan, sons David (Pam) of Milwaukee WI, Marc of Boston MA, and John (Colleen) of Bentonville AR, and grandchildren Jack and Ava. SMITH GORDON HEALD SMITH GORDON SMITH Age 87, of Okemos, formerly of Pleasant Ridge, died January 22, 2009 after bravely facing cancer. Beloved husband of Marion E. Smith for 61 years. Loving father of Lawrence (deceased), Nancy Kelly (Bruce Gruner), Roger (Cecelia) and Russell (Karen). Gordon was born in Detroit and served his country in WWII in the Army Air Corps. He earned his B.A. and Masters in music from Wayne State University. Gordon played trumpet with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra from 1946 until his retirement in 1987 and was an adjunct professor at WSU. Gordon taught hundreds of students at WSU and at home. He also gigged and traveled with some of the biggest names in show business. Gordon was a 50 plus year member in the Detroit Federation of Musicians Union, Local #5. He was an avid golfer and finally made his hole-in-one in the summer of 2000. Gordon loved to be on the water as he and Marion sailed their boat, the Allegory, in Sarasota Bay and the Florida Keys. He also completed 3 Detroit Free Press Marathons. A memorial service will be held February 14th, 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 143 Albany, Ferndale, MI. STEWART EDWARD JAMES STEWART EDWARD STEWART born July 28, 1910, in Royal Oak, MI. His family moved west in 1916 and lived in California and New Mexico before returning to Oxford in 1935. He, and his family, have resided in his mother s family home since returning to the community. He married Gertrude Jane Willobee in 1936, and they had remained happily married for these 72 years. Edward was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather and Dreamland Train Engineer Extraordinaire. At 98 years young Edward went home to Heaven on January 3, 2009. He was in the arms of his wife and surrounded by his five children and their families. He passed quietly as his family sang Sweet Hour of Prayer, lifting him to the arms of Jesus. He is forever loved by all who knew him; admired for his quiet strength; and cherished for his sense of humor, adventurous spirit and eternally youthful outlook on life. He had always been a shining example of a truly Christian heart; and will always be a hero to his children. He will be missed beyond measure and Heaven will be blessed by the presence of this Saint (Psalm 116:15). She married Edward J. Stewart in 1936. For over 72 years they lived happily together. Edward was her only love, soul mate and life companion. They were truly two souls one life. When he left us for heaven on January 3, 2009, her heart left with him, and she just could not continue on this earth without him. Gerty was a published poet, who was known for her wonderful sense of humor and her love of music, which she shared abundantly.
