LAGOS GERALDINE LAGOS GERRY LAGOS Succumbed to her battle with cancer on January 3, 2009 surrounded by family and friends when the Lord took her into his arms and her Dad and Mom (Ed and Angie Lagos) welcomed her home. Gerry's outstanding outlook on life will be greatly missed by her sister Janet (Joe) Faron and her brothers Richard (Tammy) and Edward (Julie) Lagos. Auntie Gerry will definitely leave a void in the lives of her nephew Matthew and nieces Kristen and Erica. She was also proud to be called Godmother by Francis, Kristen, Jeff, Denise, and Kaitlin. Gerry will definitely be missed by her aunts and uncle, Ciocia Mary, Uncle Walter and Ciocia Gertie; best friends, Susie and Pattie; and countless people that were honored to call her Wife #2, Loving Cousin, Best Friend, Sister of the Heart, Girlfriend, Friend, Dear Neighbor, Ciocia Pierogi, Geraldinneee. The list of these endearing titles could go on because Gerry touched the lives of everyone she met. She was a very active and proud member of Our Lady Help of Christians Church (the smallest parish with the biggest heart) which also described Gerry's personality: little in stature, biggest in heart. She was also a member of the St. Monica Guild for as long as the parish remained open. Geraldine was a loyal employee of the John E. Green Company for 35 years. She loved her job and her family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Green Family for their kindness and support during her illness. Joseph Hector Landry was born January 18, 1932 in Oak Park, MI to Peter H. Landry and Corinne (Allard). He was a graduate of St. James Catholic High School. Joe followed in his father's footsteps working as a carpenter for 40 years. He served in Korean War with the U.S. Army. Joe lived in Redford Township for the last 47 years and was very active on the Redford Township local management until his death, including the planning commission and the zoning board. He was also very active at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church for many years. Joe was an avid golfer, hitting the links in the summer and the golf dome in the winter. LARSEN DAVID LARSEN died November 29, 2008; age 58. Born March 13, 1950, in Pontiac, MI. David resided in Keego Harbor, MI, most of his life. His parents and two sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, Al (Pat); sisters, Betty (Tony) Herbst and Diana Penoyer; and several nieces and nephews. LARSON JOHN GRANT LARSON JOHN LARSON 75, of Galesburg, Illinois died January 16, 2009. He was born August 17, 1933 in Galesburg, the son of Vorace T. and Isal Johnson Larson. He married Grace Peyron on June 6, 1959 in Urbana, Illinois. She preceded him in death on August 5, 2003. He is survived by two sons, Brad R. (Elizabeth) Larson of Knoxville, Illinois and Kirk T. (Teresa) Larson of Sacramento, California; a brother, Robert; a sister, Janet, and five grandchildren, and a special friend, Joan Carlson of Galesburg. John was a scientist at Carnegie Mellon Institute, Gulf Oil Research, and finished his career as head of the Physical Chemistry and Physics Departments at General Motors Corporation. Among his accomplishments his group developed key scientific breakthroughs, including the Catalytic Converter. He retired in 1995 and moved back to Galesburg. He had lived in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania for 13 years and in Birmingham, Michigan for 23 years. John was raised on the family farm in rural Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1951. He received his BA in Chemistry from Bradley University in 1955 and his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1962. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, the Catalysis Society, American Chemical Society, American Physical Society, and Sigma Xi. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1957. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. James Eklund will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. LEWIS CHARLES D LEWIS CHARLES LEWIS August 3, 1930 -January 11, 2009. "C.D." passed away after battling cancer for two years. He was 78 years old. C.D. was born August 3, 1930 in Tennessee. He was a graduate of Lincoln Park High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a general contractor of commercial construction in the downriver area for 42 years. He lived on Grosse Ile before retiring to Bradenton, Florida. C.D. was a semi professional bowler when he was a young man. He was a member of the Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club for many years where he loved to play golf and gin rummy with his friends. C.D. is survived by his former wife Suzanne Lewis; daughter Debbie Gorno and her husband Michael of Atlanta, Georgia; his son Dan Lewis and daughter Lori Lewis of Taylor; grandson Kevin Hamilton and his wife Angie and soon to be great grandson Wyatt of Ann Arbor; granddaughter Heather Hamilton and Keith McBride and great granddaughter Brooklyn of Taylor. He also was employed here in sales promotion by the Detroit Diesel Division of General Motors. As a hobby, he had raced a Porsche sports car and was an early member of the Sports Car Club of America. LUBAWAY RALPH LUBAWAY Age 88 of Wyandotte passed away January 29, 2009 at Rivergate Terrace Nursing Home where he received wonderful care. Ralph was born on August 8, 1920 in Highland Park, Michigan. The son of Joseph Sr. and Stella (Mielock) Lubaway. He married the love of his life, Wilma Agnes Cole on February 14, 1942 in Wyandotte, Michigan. Ralph grew up in Oscoda, Michigan before moving to Wyandotte. Ralph served in the United States Army from December 21, 1942 until November 2, 1945 when honorably discharged. When Ralph returned home from the Army he built a home in Wyandotte for his family. He was a member of Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters Union for over 63 years. Ralph was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Wyandotte. For many years he volunteered his services for the church. Ralph was survived by six daughters Virginia (James) Coker, Claire Lubaway, Kathryn Rivera, Amy (Jerry) LaBeau, Rebecca (Robert) Szwed, Donna (Gregory) La Monica and four sons Peter (Michele Karl), James (Carmen), David (Gail) and Matthew (Renee). She was born Virginia Julia Bodick on March 31, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to George and Margaret Bodick and was a resident of Troy from 1965 until shortly before her passing. Virginia is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Albert; her children Daniel, Julie (John) Childers, Robert (Krista), and James; her grandchildren Kathryn, Brendan, Owen, and Samantha. She is survived by her brother, George Bodick and is predeceased by her brother, Marvin Bodick. Virginia also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her dearly. Virginia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, nana and a caring friend to countless people. Virginia was a unique mix of intelligence, independence and compassion. She was born and raised in Detroit and graduated from Wayne State University. Virginia pursued a career in medicine working as a medical technologist at several hospitals, including the Cleveland Clinic and South Macomb Hospital. Virginia was always on the go and was an avid golfer, reader and was constantly taking classes in many different areas to improve her mind and body.
