DAVIS CAROLYN SUE DAVIS CAROLYN DAVIS of Groveland Township; age 73; died on January 19, 2009, at the family farm, after a courageous battle with cancer. Honoring her wishes cremation has taken place. Carol was born in Pearl, Kentucky. She relocated with her family and was raised in Bonnie Blue, Virginia. Carolyn moved to Holly, Michigan in 1959. She was predeceased by her parents Stanley "Red" and Patsy Davis, and her much loved brother Ralph Davis and sister Norma Jean Roncato. She is survived by her husband of 54 years Joseph Davis, who took extraordinary care of her during her lengthy illness. Carol's favorite things in life were her children and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her children, Joanne Bergh of The Woodlands, Texas, Wayne (Judy) Davis, from Reddick, Florida, and Michael (Kim) Davis from Mt. Morris; she leaves behind six grandchildren, Katy Jo (Dwayne) Pickard, Ashley and Tyler Bergh, Jessica (Travis) Giffin , Justin Davis, Sarah (David) Lucas, and Becky Lamb; she most enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren, Trenton and Payton Hewitt, JR Pickard, Lauryn Lucas, Erin May and Elizabeth Lamb. As a young woman Carol worked for Bell Telephone Company. She was a founding member and active participant of the Wolverine Riders 4-H Horse Club. Carol worked as a teacher's aid in the Brandon School District in Ortonville, working with elementary school children who needed special, individualized help to bring them up to grade level. Carol was also called upon for many years to work various county and presidential elections in Groveland Township and served as Precinct Chairman. Carolyn was a member of the Groveland Township Zoning Board. Dear wife of Roland Dawson, to whom she was married for 37 years, and Arden Bennett for 15 years. Mother of her beloved Nicki (Charles) McGuigan, grandmother of Ric (Kitty) McGuigan, Kit (Denise) McGuigan, and Bryn McGuigan. Great-grandmother of Crystal (Czarnik), Steve, Dave and Troy McGuigan. Aside from her devotion to her family, Vi was extremely committed to her Savior Jesus Christ, and the Arts. As to the Arts—in addition to being an accomplished painter, Vi was Member-Secretary of The Detroit Palette Guild in the 60's. Vi was that rare person who touched people wherever she went, with her obvious inner resolve and kindness. It was her wish that a formal funeral not be held, but that her ashes be spread during a memorial in her honor this coming Spring. If ever there were a person who deserved to walk the streets of Heaven—it's Vi.

DEAN JOHN C DEAN JOHN DEAN 85, died peacefully Thursday, January 22, 2009, at his home surrounded by family. He was born February 2, 1923, in Lawrence Massachusetts, son of the late Clement and Julia (Donahue) Dean. On August 21, 1943, he was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Monica A. (Webb) Dean at St. Mary's Church in Lawrence. John graduated from Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, MA in 1940. He served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945 as 1st Lieutenant, Navigator. After the war he attended Boston University, graduating in 1948 and joining the accounting firm of Touche, Ross, Bailey and Smart. In 1954 John joined Ford Motor Company and was soon transferred to Dearborn, MI. He spent 26 years with Ford retiring in 1980 as Chairman and CEO of Ford Motor Credit, Co. and Vice President of Ford Motor. During his career John was an active member of his community, serving many organizations, including chairing the United Way's annual fund drive. Upon retirement in 1980, John returned with Monica to New England, settling in Pomfret. They became active members of Most Holy Trinity Church. In addition John served on many boards while in retirement. John leaves behind many close friends and associates from his church and the greater Pomfret Community, as well as from Michigan. He will be missed by everyone whose life he touched. John was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His favorite times were those when he was surrounded by his loving family. Holiday and other celebrations at his home were some of his happiest moments. In addition to his wife Monica of 65 years, John is survived by three daughters, Karen Stutz and her husband Jack of Seekonk, MA, Jeryl Ann McGuire and her husband Tom of Amherst, MA, and Maryann Dean of Washington, DC; four sons, John C. Dean, Jr. and his wife Susan of Woodside, CA, Mark Dean and his wife Renee of Cornwall, VT, Michael Dean and his wife Heather of Barnstable, MA, and James Dean of Woodstock, CT; his daughter-in-law Polly Dean of Pomfret, CT; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, MaryJo Lawson. He leaves two sisters, Elizabeth Melnikas and Julia Fionte, both of North Andover, MA; a brother, Edwin Dean and his wife Mary of Andover, MA; as well as many nieces and nephews. DECKER EARL DECKER Of Ocala, Florida, formerly of Shelby Township. Went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Doris on January 16, 2009. Dear father of Steven and Matthew (Maureen), three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by many good friends, especially Don Lloyd and Bill Coones. Earl proudly served on the air crew of a B-25 bomber in the Pacific theater during WWII. He retired from a career in management at Production Tool Supply Co. and T.B. Rayl's Hardware in Detroit. He was an avid golfer and a talented photographer who never stopped learning. He started using a computer at the age of 85 and sent daily jokes and inspirational messages to family and friends. Earl was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Ocala. He enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in church events. DEETER JOAN DEETER age 76; of Kettering, OH; passed away, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Kettering Medical Center. She was born February 29, 1932 in Pontaic, Michigan to the late Branton E., Sr. and Genevieve A. Dennis. Joan was a graduate of Pontiac Sr. High School, Class of 1949. She was a long time member of Sycamore Creek Country Club, a member of the Dayton Women s Club, and a member of the Montgomery County Republican Women s Club. She found great joy in volunteering at her churches over the years, Fairmont, Southminster, and finally Westminster Presbyterian Church. Joan is survived by her husband of over 55 years, Donald Andrew Deeter; daughter and son-in-law, Gwen Deeter Barker and husband Kevin; grandchildren, Lindsey Deeter and Andrew Deeter Barker; brother and sister-in-law, David Dennis and Jane; sister-in-law, Joanne Dennis; and numerous other family members and friends; she is also survived by the friends whom she loved to golf, play bridge, have lunch, and share books with in Dayton, Florida, and Michigan. A native of Detroit, Michigan, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Specialized Training Program and later in the infantry in the European Theater. He was a retired engineer with Uniroyal, and worked in Uniroyal's overseas operations in Belgium, Germany, Scotland and South America. He enjoyed movies, good books, jigsaw puzzles, and a varied internet correspondence with friends and family. Surviving are his beloved wife Betty; children Dorcas, Gordon and Elizabeth; and nine grandchildren. He was born on April 26, 1916 in Fairmont, West Virginia, to the late Edwin V. Duffy Sr. and Agnes (Henry) Duffy. His wife, Gwendolyn P. (Perry) Duffy, preceded him in death on October 22, 2007. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Jane Duffy of Grosse Point Woods, Michigan and Lawrence and Kathryn Duffy of Winter Park, Florida; daughter, Christine "Tina" Garber of Troy, Ohio; and four grandchildren: Christopher Duffy, Elizabeth Duffy, R. Duffy Garber and Daniel Garber. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Duffy was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Duffy Hayes. He was a graduate of W. Virginia University and a member of PHI KAPPA PSI Fraternity. Mr. Duffy was a Captain in the US Army and was stationed at Camp Lee in Virginia during WWII. He spent most of his adult life in Mansfield, Ohio, working for Mansfield Tire & Rubber Co. as executive vice president of sales. In Mansfield, he was a member and past president of the Mansfield Rotary; a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners and of The 51 Club. He moved to Troy, Ohio in 1987 and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Troy Country Club.
