BAIN HAROLD N BAIN HAROLD BAIN HAL BAIN Age 91, of Detroit and Punta Gorda, FL, passed away January 17, 2009. He is survived by his sister Geraldine Hauka of Punta Gorda, FL, sister-in-law Geraldine Bain and many nieces and nephews. Hal retired from his accounting position with Ford Motor Company in 1979. Upon retiring he learned to play the Dulcimer and was a charter member of the Silver Strings Dulcimer Society, Uncle Carl's Dulcimer Club, Original Dulcimer Player's Club, Suncoast Dulcimer Society and Paint Creek Folklore Society. Hal also served in the Army and was a Wayne State University Graduate. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Roseland Park Cemetery, 29001 Woodward Ave., Berkley, MI under the auspices of the United States Army. (Meg) Ballard, III of Battle Creek, Diana (Wayne) Corbeille of Las Vegas, NV, Michael Ballard of Stuart, FL and Nancy Ballard of Houston, TX; dear grandfather of Matthew, Michelle (Grant), Maria, Lela, Frankie, Breana, Wayne (Jill), Corina, Nick and Bryce; great grandfather of Madelyn and Dylan; brother of Wayne (Shirley) Ballard, Shirley (John) Bozek, Muriel Smith and preceded in death by Theresa Shampine, Wilson, Clayton, Felix and Dave Ballard; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Ballard was born April 27, 1922 in Aloha, Michigan to Frank R. and Margaret May Dunn Ballard. He was raised in Cheboygan County, worked at a CCC camp and at age 16 moved to Pontiac to work for Pontiac Motors. Frank served with the U.S. Army during W.W. II and received two Bronze Stars. After the war he returned to Pontiac and worked for an electrical supply company, then as a car salesman for 11 years and retired as the chief of maintenance at the Oakland County Drain Commission after 22 years. Frank was united in marriage to Arlene Frances McManus at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pontiac on April 12, 1947. Mr. Ballard was a longtime member of All Saints Episcopal Church, was a member of the Heart of the Lakes V.F.W. Post #1008, enjoyed working in his yard and was an avid reader. '34) is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Dorothy (nee McMaster -- Lash H.S. Born in 1916 to Emry and Ila Benton in Licking County, Ohio, he became a licensed steam and boiler engineer working in the electrical power industry. He served honorably as a U.S. Army officer in N. Africa during World War II. He then began a long career working in adult education with the Henry George School of Social Science that promotes the use of a single land tax to reduce the social abuses associated with property development. He moved his family to the Detroit area from Delaware, Ohio in 1962. The last decades of his life, he dedicated it to the management of his own rental properties and loving his family. She taught school in Aurora, IL, and then moved to Detroit. She was a secretary at Visiting Nurse Association for many years. At the time of her passing she was retired. She was a member of Metropolitan United Methodist Church for many years and greatly appreciated the concern and care some of the members gave her in her last years when she suffered from Parkinson's Disease. Duane was employed as a Loan Officer for GMAC for over 20 years, working in many cities, currently in Detroit. He served his country in the US Marines. Duane was a very generous person, who enjoyed spending time with his family playing cards, and video games with nieces and nephews. His other interests included the theatre and musicals. Duane also enjoyed genealogy, and did full genealogies for both the Blumer and Maly families. BOLLA EDWARD J BOLLA EDWARD BOLLA Long time Detroit resident. Beloved husband of Ruth, passed away Friday, January 16th in Scottsdale Arizona. Born in Detroit October 27, 1917, Edward was a member of the Detroit Boat Club rowing crew that defeated Canada. He attended Michigan State College and served proudly in the Marine Corps during WW II. After the war Edward worked in banking as a manager for both Bank of the Commonwealth and Detroit and Northern. Ed and Ruth spent many wonderful days boating, sailing and fishing on Lake St Clair from their home on Harbor Island. Ed's prowess as a fisherman was well known. Once the Detroit News devoted an entire page pictorially documenting his day catching his limit. In retirement Ed and Ruth spent several years in Longboat Key Florida where they entertained visiting family and friends. Loved by all members of his large extended family of nieces and nephews 'the Old Salt' is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Riopelle Bolla and brothers Ernie and Bob. He will be interred at the National Cemetery, Phoenix Arizona.

BRACKEN JOSEPH R BRACKEN JOSEPH BRACKEN Age 83. Passed away January 13, 2009 at his home in Holmes Beach FL with his family at his side. Born in Chestnut Hill, PA he moved to Grosse Pointe and attended GP High before enlisting in the Army at age 18. He flew in combat during WWII in the Army Air Corps, 15th Air Force and Bomb Group. After the war, he attended the University of Michigan and went on to work extensively in advertising in Detroit, New York and Mexico. After retiring to Holmes Beach he became a very engaged community worker by serving on HB Code Enforcement Board, President of Anna Maria Island Community Choir and Orchestra, Friends of Island Library among many other jobs. He was an active member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. Joe is survived by his brothers, John and Richard, son, Joe and daughter, Mary (Jack Rock) as well as his grandchildren-Jeanette, Justin and Adam and great grand-daughter Mariah. He was predeceased by his wife Jean and daughter Peggy. A Mass was held January 16. Plans pending for final service and inurnment in Grosse Pointe Farms at St. Paul's Catholic Church in late spring. BUELL VIRGINIA GRAY BUELL VIRGINIA BUELL 84, passed on to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 11, 2009, in Las Vegas, Nevada where she had lived since 1986. She was born in Morganfield, Kentucky in 1924 and lived in Detroit, Michigan as an adult. Virginia (Ginny) was predeceased by her late husband Richard W. Buell, and brothers Del, Pete, and Jim Gray and is survived by her brother Charles Grey and nephew Charles Grey of Aurora, Colorado, nieces Linda Steiner, Joan Gray, Leslie Nolte of Las Vegas, and Kelly Conti of San Diego, California as well as step-son Richard W. Buell and grandchildren Page Ashley and Richard W. Buell II, and great-grandchildren Brett, Taylor, and Mason Ashley and Blake Richard Buell of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Mrs. Buell was employed at Budd Wheel in Detroit and was a member of the Detroit Yacht Club, Detroit Golf Club, and American Turners for many years. Virginia was an avid sports enthusiast and was able to see the world with her family and close friends; she was loved by many and will be sincerely missed. A celebration of her life will be held in Detroit on July 30, 2009 where she will be interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Queenie was born on Muskoka Lake, Milford Bay, Ontario. Canada to Walter Fowler and Josephine Sciven Fowler. Walter was a steamboat captain on the Muskoka Lake. Both her parents were born in England. Queenie, at the age of 17, left Muskoka to come to Detroit to look for a job and shortly afterwards met her future husband Robert. Queenie got a job at Morgan Wright, building automobile tires, which later became Uniroyal Tire Co. She was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, her husband of 37 years, Robert Garden Burnett Sr., born in Scotland, and children Rosemary Elizabeth Rogers, Robert Garden Jr., William (Bruce), Donald Gordon Sr. (Debbie) and grandson Donald Gordon Jr. She is survived by her children Ian Malcolm Sr. (Debbie), Roderick James (Mary), Janet Gayle, Douglas Alexander (Cindy) and William Stanley, a nephew she helped raise.
