Loving mother of Richard (fiancée Melissa), Debra (Steve) Meriwether, Susan (Jason) Joplin, and Diana (Nick) Peraino. Dear grandmother of Garrett, Adam, and Sidney. She is also survived by her mother Kathryn Mix and five siblings. She retired in 2007 from the Karmanos Cancer Institute where she was a nurse for 20 years. She attended St. Louise Church in Warren. She was the oldest child and is survived by brother: Edward (Marly) Gatenby, Sisters: Lucy May (Jim) McColman, and Marjorie Rose (Robert) Scarborough. She is pre-deceased by her brothers: Joseph, Sidney Jr., Jack, and Bill Gatenby. She married her late husband Raymond Stanley VanValkenburg on February 2, 1952 in Detroit. Loving mother of Richard (Debbie) and Mark (Carole). Dear grandmother of Steven, Nicole, Amy, Erin, Jennifer, and Raymond. She was a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Hazel Park. Mr. Vantine owned and operated Vantine Farms. He was a member of the Ortonville Lions Club, Michigan Milk Producers Association Oakland County Farm Bureau, Ortonville Masonic Lodge #339 F & AM and Eastern Star where he was Past Worthy Patron. He was also a former member of the Land Bank Board, Ortonville School Board and Ortonville Cemetery Board.
