PAGOTTO GINO ANDREA PAGOTTO GINO PAGOTTO Was born in the Italian town of Castello di Roganzuolo, San Fior on March 20, 1927 and died on March 7, 2009. He was a skilled carpenter and immigrated to Windsor, Ontario as a young man. Here, he met Betty De Santis who would become the love of his life and his wife for almost 51 years. He later moved to Detroit, where his superb skills in building led to increasing responsibilities in the construction industry. He advanced to construction superintendent with Darin & Armstrong, R.E. Dailey, and then Perini Building Co. Among the projects he supervised were the building of the Ford Motor Regent Court in Dearborn and portions of the Somerset North Mall. He was actively involved with the P.I.M.E. Missionaries and two chapels were built in his honor in the Philippines. Gino had many hobbies and interests including making wine and sausages, woodworking, and gardening. He was an avid gardner who grew the biggest tomatoes in Detroit and annually produced a fig harvest that was unparalleled in Michigan. He loved Detroit sports teams and Friday night wrestling. He dearly loved Detroit and the United States that provided him great opportunity. Gino was a devoted and extremely loving husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his life. A measure of his success is reflected in the achievements of his three children—Dr. Luciana (Scott) Young in Chicago, IL, Carla in Jacksonville, FL and Gino (Kim) in Washington D.C. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty, his three children, his two brothers, Ferruccio and Luciano and extended family in Italy, and two beautiful granddaughters, Zoey and Gianna. He always will be remembered singing his song..."Ti voglio bene assai..." POMANTE SALVATORE J POMANTE SALVATORE POMANTE Of Owosso, formerly of Roscommon and Center Line, age 94, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Central Michigan Community Hospital. Mr. Pomante was a faithful husband to his loving wife Rosemary for over 70 years. Sal loved writing poetry, listening to classical music and playing violin as a young man. An honest and spiritual man, he lived his life adhering to strong traditional moral and ethical values. Sal enjoyed hunting in earlier years and going to the many Michigan casinos. Boys Town was his favorite charity. Sal achieved his lifelong dream by becoming a Class "A" member of the P.G.A. (Professional Golfers Association). Sal was the oldest of twelve children. Surviving are: children, Sal "JR" (Margaret Backstrand), Frances (James) Schimmel and Michael (Betty); eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother and six sisters; numerous nieces and nephews and closest friend, Doug Jetter of North Carolina. POPPELREITER JOSEPH C POPPELREITER II JOSEPH POPPELREITER II Passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009, in Houston, Texas. He is missed by his loving wife Julie, his mother, sister and brother in Michigan, and his daughter in California. Joe was an inventor and technology innovator. He held two patents and was widely respected by his peers in the engineering industries. He was a lover of nature and a keen observer of all the human and animal species. In his younger days, he was awarded the Vigil Honor Award by the Boy Scouts of America. The Vigil Honor is the highest honor that the Order of the Arrow can bestow upon its members. Joe loved growing and perfecting new strains of tomatoes. He loved to see fine machines excel at their edge of perfection, just as he loved to marvel at the ability of his beloved Hummingbirds to manuever amongst the many feeders at his home in Sugar Land. In his last years Joe was a key technologist at Kem-Tron in Stafford, Texas. In the last few months of his life Joe had perfected the design and practical development of a new generation of shale shakers and Kem-Tron has decided to name the new machines, the Poppelreiter Shakers.
