MACHLAY SHARON A MACHLAY SHARON MACHLAY Age 67 of Brighton, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2009. She was born on September 3, 1941 in Detroit, the daughter of Daniel and Edith (Clifford) Cavanaugh. On September 15, 1990 she married James E. Machlay. Sharon loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Prior to her retirement in 2003 she had been employed by United Airlines. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Machlay of Brighton; children, Sean (Kendall) Gibson of Brighton, Colleen (Dean) Shepard of Howell, Kerry (Todd) Breault of Howell, Maureen (Keith) Corts of Kalamazoo; stepchildren, Susan Machlay of Clearlake, California, Michael (Carolyn) Cregar of Romeo, Steven (Laura) Machlay of Detroit, Kristin (Adam) Rogers of Charleston, South Carolina; 17 grandchildren; one sister Shirley (Bob) Baur of Athens, Ohio; and one brother, Rick (Rosita) Cavanaugh of Utica. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dan Cavanaugh. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 4, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. at the Keehn Funeral Home, Brighton, MI. MACY RUBEN WAYNE MACY RUBEN MACY March 6, 2008, age 85. Beloved husband of Margarita for 63 years. Loving father of Linda (Bob), Robert and James (Lori). Dear grandfather of Nicole (Dan) Hunter, Brett, Meghan and Sean Macy and great grandfather of Macie and Max Hunter. Wayne enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942 serving in the Pacific Theater, flying P-47's and P-51's logging 154 combat missions with the 341st Ftr. Sq. He was awarded many medals and citations including a recommendation for the the Distinguished Flying Cross. Retired from Detroit Diesel as a Mechanical Engineer. Wayne was a member of the Air Force Museum Foundation at Wright Patterson, Am. Legion Post 32, VFW Post 6695, 43K Aviation Cadet Assoc. and the Yankee Air Museum. MACY STELLA A MACY STELLA MACY 91, of Ann Arbor (formerly of Detroit), passed away peacefully on March 10, 2009. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Stella will be deeply missed by all of her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband John and survived by her sons, John (Christine) and Robert (Darlene); grandchildren Jeffrey, Jaclyn, Dr. Cheryl Macy, Kimberley (Sean) Caldwell, Robert (Colleen) and Nicholas Macy; great grandchildren Chelsea, Andrew, Matthew, Jacob Caldwell, Alexander and Andrew Macy. MADILL DAVID J MADILL DAVID MADILL of White Lake; March 6, 2009; at 61 years of age. Loving husband of Mary Jean for 41 years; dear father of Jim Madill and Tony Madill; beloved son of Agnes L. David was a 1965 graduate of Waterford Kettering. He retired from the Bloomfield Twp. Police Department and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during Vietnam. David was an avid golfer and sports fan. Mr. Maghielse served 4½ years in the Navy during World War II and worked as an engineer for the Detroit Board of Education until he retired in 1981. Beloved husband for 60 years of Elsie. She is survived by her only son, Walter Markiewicz (Bonnie). She is also survived by three sisters, Michaeline Lademann, Adeline Bagnasco and Stella Sobka, and many nieces and nephews who loved her. MATURO JOHN MATURO born September 21, 1925 in New Haven, Connecticut; died peacefully in his sleep in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Sunday evening March 15, 2009 with his son Paul at his side. John a 1950 graduate of U. of Michigan and a member of the 1947 National Championship Football team was a career high school teacher and guidance counselor at Pontiac Northern High School. He later achieved a Specialist Degree in Counseling from Michigan State and taught night classes for Oakland Community College. He was also a football and golf coach for Pontiac Central and later for St. Michael's High School. He is well remembered by all for his unfailing cheerfulness and hearty laugh, athleticism and strength, and gentle way with young people. For decades he did his annual "Lion Hunt" story for the young children at both the Frick and Ogg family reunions which were his family by marriage to the former Wanda June Ogg. He was a veteran of W.W. II, Staff Sergeant, Combat Engineers and volunteered for additional duty in Europe after VJ day during which time he played football, hockey, and baseball to entertain the troops during de-mobilization. His Oise All Star football team, on which he was the starting end, once played victoriously against the 1945 Washington Red Skins in a French soccer stadium on the outskirts of Paris. John's legacy of educational and athletic excellence has produced two more generations of scholar athletes among his sons and grandchildren. It was his greatest joy to see his children and grandchildren attended Yale, Amherst, Kalamazoo College, U. of Michigan, Kenyon, Smith, McGill, U. of Connecticut, Wheaton College and watch each one of them play on at least one collegiate varsity football, lacrosse, soccer, or field hockey team. John is survived by his 92 year old sister Mary Addario, Hamden, CT; four nephews, Edward, James, and John Maturo, and Lucian Addario, all of the greater New Haven area; two nieces Maryann Leach of Boston, MA and Cynthia Smith of Manchester, CT; three sons, John 54, New Haven, Raymond 53, and Paul 50 both of Ann Arbor; along with three grandsons Ted, Clark, and Paul Maturo; and 5 granddaughters, Erin, Claire, Amelia, Gianina, and Olivia Maturo. A Service of Remembrance will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, Pontiac, Michigan, at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009. Born and raised in Wisconsin, Rod graduated from UW Lacrosse in 1970 and was employed by Nationwide Insurance and it's subsidiaries for the past 39 years. Rod's positions in the company took him all over the country including Wisconsin, Minnesota, California, Colorado and Detroit, Michigan. Rod was passionate about golf, sports and classis cars, including his beloved 1957 and 1962 Thunderbirds. He was preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth. He is survived in life by his wife of 40 years Christine; his sons Brian (Krista) and Adam (Jenni); grandsons Troy, Aiken and Carson and his brother Raymond (Shirley). She was a graduate of St. Benedict High School in Highland Park, MI. She met Carl Morath while working at the Albert Kahn architectural firm. They were married on June 4, 1945. She began work on her greatest vocation as mother with the birth of their first child the following year. Her home was always a welcoming and nurturing environment for not only her children, but all their friends. On the occasion of her fiftieth wedding anniversary, she received an award from Madonna University acknowledging her many accomplishments as an outstanding and devoted wife and mother. Clara will also be remembered for her 4th of July strawberry shortcake, Christmas whiskey cake, being the head chef for tamale making (also at Christmas), the shimmy and her sense of style, which included her dog (her very stylish black cane with a gold dog head handle), weekly hair appointments with Jeannie for over 25 years and a candy apple red Pontiac Trans Am (she wouldn t drive an old woman s car ), humor and nuttiness. She was one of the World War II Rosie the Riveters and retired from Pontiac Motor Division. Clara was a 4 9 dynamo, and we are so fortunate to have been a part of her family.
