HYNES DENNIS HYNES 76 years old, passed away on March 13th, 2009 after a very courageous battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his father, Roy Hynes and mother, Marjorie Hynes (Kehrl). Dennis was the loving husband and soul mate of Connie Hynes (Evans) for 33 years. He was also married to Jo Ann Ashley with whom he fathered five children; Stephen Hynes (Pam), his favorite daughter, Tara Kranz (Dick), his favorite daughter Kim Hynes, his favorite daughter, Dawn Whaley (Mark) and Bradley Hynes (Dawn). Dennis was proud grandpa to Troy and Jeffrey Hynes and Andy and Jessica Whaley. He was extremely close to his brother, Bruce Hynes, and his wife, Karen, as well as his nephew, Jeffrey Hynes and niece, Jennifer Calhoun. He considered his son-in-law, Dick Kranz, as one of his best friends and they enjoyed many long ocean voyages and flying trips together. Dennis' passions were flying, boating and the relentless defense of his constitutional rights. His love of flying began during the Depression when Dennis saw that free airplane rides were given to those who purchased a war bond. His mother bought a bond she could ill afford as 9 year old Dennis wanted to fly. He was hooked from then on and that initial spark led him to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a PFC radio operator on a Martin Mariner PBM-5 Seaplane. He was owner-pilot of over 50 aircraft and if there was a rating to be had, he had it. This enthusiasm was evident in the purchases of Lake Amphibians, Seabees, Twin Bonanzas, Queen Airs, Cessna 206, a new Citibria, Paris Jet, Mohawk, and a SNJ/AT-6 that was featured in the film Tora! Tora! Tora!. He passed on his love of flying on to his son, Steve, who went on to get many ratings. Dennis' love of flying led him and Connie to Spruce Creek Fly-In, Port Orange, FL, which they called home for 15 years before relocating to Indian River, MI. It was there that Dennis R. Hynes, Col-CAF, donated much of his time to the CAF Florida Wing . At his hangar in Florida he created a one-of-a-kind Turbine-powered Navion (CA-N478) which received the highest of praise on the October 2001 issue of Private Pilot magazine. Since moving to Indian River he built a hangar and enjoyed boating, flying and the camaraderie of his fellow pilots at the Indian River Airport. Dennis undertook an entrepreneurial career that leaves distinguished footprints in all that he created. He was co-founder/owner of Heat Treating Services Corporation of America, founder of Surplus Equipment & Machinery Company and Hynes Leasing Corporation. If the adage "he who dies with the most toys wins" is true, Dennis will certainly get the prize. If you asked him of what he was most proud, he would say his family. He was the rock of his family and his strength, courage, un-ending love and support will be forever missed. He was a kind and honorable man whose friends were numerous. His spirit lives on in Connie, his beloved wife and care-giver extraordinaire. The family had a private ceremony. Please share your memories of Dennis with them at their on-line guest book at stonefuneralhomeinc.com. Donations in memory of Dennis can be made to the Commemorative Air Force, Florida Wing, P.O. Box 1933, Deland, FL 32721-1944. The Lintz Funeral Home of Indian River, Michigan is caring for the family.
