Erma was very proud to be a coal miner's daughter! She loved to reminisce about her happy childhood growing up in JugRun, a tiny coal mining company town in southeastern Ohio with her sister Flora and brother Jimmie. Her parents, Emery and Susanna Vasey, were Hungarian immigrants who worked hard to provide a good life for their family in their adopted country. During those early years, father worked long hours as a foreman in the coal mines, while mother tended a home with neither electricity nor indoor plumbing. The family relocated to Detroit in 1929, soon after graduating from Cooley High School at the age of 17, Erma began her long and successful business career with the Detrex Corporation. Encouraged by her parent's strong European work ethic, she worked her way up from the mail room to the executive offices and a position of Administrative Assistant to the president of the company. Along the way, while in her 50's Erma proudly earned her degree in Business Administration from the Detroit College of Business. She retired from Detrex in 1986 after 50 years of service! Erma was the dear wife of the late William Clark. Stepmother of Robert (Sharon) Clark, and grandmother of Craig (Alisa) Clark and their children Emily, A.J., and Zacary, and Rene' (Edward) Campbell and their children Noah, Uriah, and Gabriella. She was also the most cherished aunt to Elaine McPhail, Diana Jarema, and Joseph (Debra) Brown, great-aunt of Dianne Gagnier, Kathleen (Eric) Roman and their children Rebecca and Nickolas, Andrea (Kevin) Oehus and their children Jesse, Alyssa, and Kerissa, Katherine Brown and Molly Brown. Erma was an infinitely kind person, generous to a fault and always ready with a smile and an encouraging word. She was the consummate "career gal" and as such, was a role model to all of her girls. She was certainly the favorite (!and funest!) Auntie / Grandma Erma to all of "her kids", and was a wonderful friend to many people. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
