CALIHAN VIRGINIA ESTELLE CALIHAN VIRGINIA CALIHAN 79, of Lake Placid,
Florida, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 in New Baltimore, Michigan. She
was born in Royal Oak Township on February 5, 1930 to Benjamin Porter
and Pearl Green Matney. Virginia spent many years enjoying boating,
playing cards, bowling, and spending time with family and friends. She
was proud to have served as the first lady commodore of Conger Bay Boat
Club and as past treasurer of Mariners Boat Club. She was a devoted
wife, a loving mother and grandmother, as well as a dear friend to many.
Virginia is survived by her children, Hank Schanstra, Patricia Calihan,
and Bill (Terri) Calihan; grandchildren, Bill (Stephanie), Shannon, Dan,
McKenzie, and Caitlin; great-grandchildren, Billy and Addison; many
nieces and nephews; and a family of friends. She was predeceased by her
husband of 55 years, Patrick O'Brien Calihan and her son, Doug Schanstra
as well as all her siblings. In Virginia's honor, a Celebration of her
Life Memorial Service will be held later in the summer. Memorial

CAMPBELL
JAMES KEVIN CAMPBELL JAMES CAMPBELLJIM CAMPBELL 90, of Manalapan,
Florida and Charlevoix, MI, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2008, in
Palm Beach, FL. He was born July 16, 1918 in Detroit, MI, where he met
his loving wife of 55 years, Virginia (Jinny) Fisher Campbell, while he
was serving in the Army Air Corp during World War II, and she was
volunteering for the USO. After the war, he had a successful career with
BASF Corporation, retiring as Vice President in 1986. Jim was an avid
outdoorsman, sports enthusiast, and philanthropist, for whom the James
K. Campbell Baseball Field is named at the University of Detroit Mercy.
He was preceded in death, by his wife, Virginia Fisher Campbell; son
Dennis James Campbell; parents, J. Ray Campbell and Hester McGrath
Campbell; brothers Francis Campbell and Robert Campbell; and beloved
nephew, Timothy Welch. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Campbell,
daughter-in-law Martha Campbell, and granddaughters, Taylor Campbell,
Tori Campbell, and Tristan Campbell, all of Telluride, Colorado; sisters
Patricia Campbell of Beverly Hills, MI, Anne Welch of Lakeland, FL, and
many nieces and nephews, to whom he was more like a father, rather than
an uncle. Jim Campbell was the patriarch and generous benefactor for his
entire extended family, who lovingly called him Tops and The Don. His
family and friends will always treasure the memory of the many family
celebrations he orchestrated at his summer home in Charlevoix, and
Christmas and Spring with him in Florida. After enduring several years
of suffering, following the death of his wife, Jinny, Jim is finally at
peace. A Catholic Memorial Mass to celebrate the life of James K.
Campbell will be held by his family in July in Michigan.

CARNAHAN
ROBERT GLEN CARNAHAN ROBERT CARNAHAN passed away April 14, 2009; age 46
due to cancer. Bob was born in Pontiac, MI on May 9, 1962 to James and
Delores Carnahan. He grew up in Walled Lake, MI, and then during his
teen years, the family moved to Ft. Pierce, FL. Eventually he came out
west to Oregon. In the 22 years he spent there, he has worked for HVAC
companies in the Portland and Bend areas. For the last 2-1/2 years, he
was co-owner of his own general contracting business. On February 1,
1992, he married Diane Dobson. On June 24, 1996, his son Cody Lee was
born and then on July 25, 1998, Kyle James was born. His children were
his pride and joy. Bob enjoyed working with his hands and was able to
fix just about anything. Besides being with his family, he enjoyed the
outdoors, warm weather and playing cards with his friends. Bob was
preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Christi Wiseman. He is
survived by wife, Diane; sons Cody and Kyle; sister and brother-in-law,
Leann and Douglas Stait, Wixom, MI; brother, Thomas Carnahan, Ft.

MR. DENNIS PAUL CARPENTER DENNIS CARPENTER age 49; of Cleveland, GA;
passed away Saturday April 18, 2009 at his residence following an
extended illness. Mr. Carpenter was born in Pontiac Michigan and had
lived in Cleveland for several years. He was a teacher at Riverside
Military Academy and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Carpenter was
preceded in death by a brother, Randy Carpenter and nephew, Christopher
Carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Cindy Carpenter, Cleveland, GA;

CHILDS COLENE A CHILDS COLENE CHILDS 71, of Mackinaw City and
Southfield, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2009 after a three month
battle with cancer. Colene was born September 24, 1937 in Alma, the
daughter of Ralph and Marguerite (Walter) Moore of Breckenridge. She
married John W. Childs on August 2, 1958. She earned a Bachelor of Arts
Degree at Central Michigan University . As an independent consultant
Colene did technical writing for DAS and Gail & Rice in the Detroit Area
and then for Childs Consulting Associates, Inc. where she was the
majority owner. Colene is survived by John, her loving husband of 50
years; her daughter, Cynthia (Laurence Cutler) Childs of West
Bloomfield, her son, Kurt (Luba Melnyczuk-Childs) Childs of Glen Arbor;
her grandchildren, Katia and Zachary Childs; her sister, Marilyn (Vern)
Reed of Hale, and her brother, Roger (Marjorie) Moore of Plymouth, and
many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Colene was

preceded in death by his twin brother, John. He was a graduate of
University of Michigan and Xavier University.
